The Human Resources Coordinator joins a forward-thinking HR team, providing professional human resources services and consultation for all Share Our Strength and Community Wealth Partners employees. The Coordinator’s scope of work is largely administrative applied across HR process and policy areas including benefits administration, recruitment, new hire onboarding, human resources compliance, policy development and administration, learning and development, and equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. The ideal candidate will have exceptional eye for detail, experience in generating and maintaining reports in data systems, ease pivoting between administrative and personnel tasks, and ability to manage data, reconciliations, calendars, and optimizing the employee experience. 

This role is ideal for an individual who is interested in growing their HR career in a mission-driven organization, and the role is based in Washington, DC and will require to be in the local Washington D.C. area.  Applicants who are not in the Washington, DC Area or interested in relocating to the Washington, DC area will not be considered for this position.  This position offers a range of $50,000-$53,000. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Routes employee HR related inquiries to the appropriate HR Business Partner.
  • Process new hire paperwork in HR information system, create new hire correspondence, and coordinate/schedule new hire orientations for team members.
  • Maintain HR department and employee files.
  • Provide scheduling support to Chief People Officer and HR team as needed
  • Process monthly invoices as received.
  • Provide support to Benefits Manager in benefits administration, including enrollment, claims resolution, change reporting, departmental reporting
  • Maintain a variety of periodic reports or queries utilizing appropriate reporting tools as requested.
  • Assist Sr Recruiter with recruitment processes including, but not limited to posting positions on employment job boards, generating offer letters, requesting and completing reference checks, coordinating on-boarding of new hires with other departments and coordinating background checks for all new hires, as needed.  
  • Assist HRBP with coordinating the schedule of internal (“Cookbook”) trainings and trainings with external vendors. 
  • Support HRBP with the organizations’ internship program to include recruitment, program implementation, intern support and guidance, and measurement of program results.
  • Maintain new hire paperwork for AmeriCorps staff.
  • Create new hire welcome packets and branded gear mailings and facilitate timely mailing of items to staff as needed.
  • Assist HRBP with coordination of employee engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with HR to maintain compliance with federal and state employment regulations.
  • Enter and maintain employee information HRIS system. 
  • Coordinate and work with HRBP to manage the Buddy Program (“PEARS”) including connecting new hires and planning quarterly events.
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring those values are embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
  • Other duties as assigned..


  • 1-2 years of human resources/administrative experience.  Bachelor’s degree is not required, but is a plus.
  • Strong skills in MS Office suite; experience with an HRIS system is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and understanding of HR processes regarding onboarding and records compliance is a plus.                                                   
  • Proven interest in learning more about and growing within the HR field.
  • Proven ability to excel working independently and as part of a (virtual, hybrid, in-person) team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and very strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Clear and effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence. 
  • Highly effective within a fluid, entrepreneurial environment, including a demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, prioritize tasks and projects, and handle challenging situations with poise and professionalism.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence. 
  • Interest in food justice, anti-hunger, and/or anti-poverty issues.

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy 


Share Our Strength is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for our staff. In order to maintain this safe workplace, we are adopting this policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families; our partners and visitors; and the community at large. This policy will comply with all applicable laws and is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, as applicable. 


Except as set forth below in the section titled “Exemptions,” all Employees (which, only for purposes of this policy, include full and part-time regular staff, AmeriCorps, temporary employees, and interns) must be “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. An individual is considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receipt of the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (e.g., Pfizer, Moderna) or two weeks after receipt of a one-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson & Johnson). Share Our Strength may also require that employees receive any booster shots ultimately recommended by health authorities. 


Employees will be notified by HR as to the timeframe(s) for having the vaccine(s) administered. Only vaccines that have received an Emergency Use Authorization or have been fully approved by the FDA or World Health Organization shall qualify. 

COVID-19 vaccinations are generally available free of charge, regardless of whether an individual has health insurance or not. Share Our Strength can provide informational resources where Employees without insurance may receive the vaccine at no charge. 

All Employees will be paid for time taken to receive vaccinations. Employees are to work with their managers to schedule appropriate time to comply with this policy. 

Before the stated deadlines to be vaccinated, Employees must provide proof of vaccination or have been approved for an exemption pursuant to the section below. For virtually all Employees, documentation will consist of the Employee's vaccination card. If other documentation is used, it should only include proof of vaccination and not other medical or genetic information (e.g., family medical history). 

If an Employee is unable to provide proof of vaccination or a reasonable accommodation cannot be provided, the Employee may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. 


Employees in need of an exemption from this policy due to a medical reason or because of a sincerely held religious belief, or as otherwise required by law, must submit a completed Request for Accommodation form to HR. 

Employees who plan to request an exemption as a reasonable accommodation should submit the Request for Accommodation form at least ten days before the stated deadline to be vaccinated in order to avoid becoming non-complaint with this policy. Share Our Strength will assess whether such Employees are eligible for a reasonable accommodation in accordance with the Organization’s policy as well as federal, state, and local law. Share Our Strength will also keep any medical information obtained in connection with a request for a reasonable accommodation confidential in accordance with, and to the extent required by, applicable law, regulations and guidance.

This policy is an essential component of Share Our Strength’s overall strategy and commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy is designed for use together with, and not as a substitute for, other measures to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the workplace.
