Associate, Internal Communications

Share Our Strength’s Internal Communications function sits on the greater Communications team. We serve as trusted advisors partnering with leadership to engage staff with need-to-know organizational news, supporting team learning and fostering a strong internal culture.

The Associate, Internal Communications will be responsible for supporting overall internal communications products and processes. This includes collection, drafting, and distribution of impact stories; maintenance of key internal channels like StrengthNet; and an overall focus on ensuring staff has the resources they need to excel. This role is a key connector, liaising with every team throughout the organization.

This position is preferably based in Washington, DC (Hybrid -2 days per week), but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the DC area 30 miles or more. The position offers a salary range of $60k-$64k. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with information sharing between departments, including translation of program materials for staff use, helping to robustly lift up stories of impact and make them accessible for all staff
  • Supporting Internal Communications, including
    • Posting monthly Exec newsletter on StrengthNet to be visually engaging and promoting on Zoom
    • Creating functional archives and search functions for knowledge resources
  • Support Senior Director and collaborate with HR and additional teams on:
    • Managing organization of a yet-to-be-established online Learning Library
    • Support development of new trainings, as appropriate
  • Support Senior Director and collaborate with IT on:
    • Ongoing maintenance for a robust and dynamic StrengthNet, including timely update of materials posted, assisting staff to develop a visually engaging space, ensuring documents are linked to appropriate archives
    • Ongoing maintenance of Zoom channels for best and highest use, ensuring the right content is promoted on the right channels
  • Collaborate across departments to escalate needs for communication tools and other resources, soliciting multiple perspectives
  • Helping Senior Director to keep staff up to date on and connected to goals, progress, new initiatives, and ongoing efforts
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field preferred, but not required.
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • MS Office, Asana proficiency and a demonstrated ability to work with new technologies
  • Operate with high emotional intelligence, identifying and working through challenges with strong judgment, cultivating and championing a collaborative culture of communication, while also deploying a high degree of discretion with sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences.
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
