Associate Director, Mid-Level Program

Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit, is ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry Campaign®—a national effort to end childhood hunger in America—Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, and builds public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.

The Associate Director, Mid-Level reports to and collaborates with the Managing Director, Individual Giving to oversee and manage the overall strategy to help grow our evolving mid-level program ($1,000 - $9,999). This position is responsible for uncovering giving motivations and interests, philanthropic aspirations, and bringing donors closer to Share Our Strength’s mission by focusing on high touch stewardship and personal outreach strategies. The Associate Director will actively work to deepen relationships across the mid-level portfolio to engage donors per their preferences and interests to retain, renew and lift their giving levels. Working closely with the Managing Director, Individual Giving, you will help implement pipeline and moves management strategies to retain and upgrade donors, shift donors from unmanaged to managed portfolios, assist with planning, budgeting, and more.

This position is based in Washington, DC but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the DC area 30 miles or more. The position offers a range of $100,000 to $110,000. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Planning

  • Work closely with Managing Director, Individual Giving to determine overall mid-level strategy and the associated journeys for acquiring and stewarding potential and active mid-level supporters including plans to upgrade supporters to major gifts and planned giving.
  • Explore and test new ways to attract and engage potential mid-level supporters through new channels, partnerships, technologies and other avenues.
  • Manage successful execution of mid-level strategy and operational plan that delivers on both short-term Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and long-term metrics.
  • Work closely with department leaders and key stakeholders; including direct response, digital, major gifts, planned giving and outside vendors as needed.

Portfolio Management

  • Qualify, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of donors by providing timely and targeted updates, conveying appreciation, and moving their gift levels up, as possible. Strategically engage executives, program team and others in acknowledgements.
  • Build relationships with assigned donors to strengthen long-term support and create a two-way dialogue with donors. Ask thoughtful and strategic questions, inspiring donors to communicate philanthropic goals.
  • Keep current about No Kid Hungry programs and projects to effectively communicate the mission to donors.
  • Collaborate with direct response, digital, culinary, major gifts and planned giving teams to enhance donor experience and develop efficient internal processes for increased giving.

Pipeline Development

  • Partner with the Analytics team and vendors to identify and support the qualification of prospective mid-level and high-capacity donors using donor profiles, behavior metrics and trends.
  • Partner with Fundraising Technology and Operations team to execute high value donor segmentation with intentional prioritization to grow pipeline to mid-level, major gifts and planned giving.
  • Align donors’ interests and insights with messaging in collaboration with direct response, culinary, digital teams, major gifts and planned giving teams.

Outsourced Personal Outreach and Stewardship Program Management

  • Work closely with Managing Director, Individual Giving to develop and implement outsourced personal outreach and stewardship program that will scale and support continued growth with the goal of increasing retention, annual giving and contact rates.
  • Manage partner selection and onboarding process, oversee and provide day-to-day management of a best-in-class personal outreach and stewardship program.
  • Work in collaboration with the Fundraising Technology and Operations team to develop actionable reporting to benchmark and measure effectiveness of the program.

Staff Management

  • Lead, coach, motivate and develop team of two managers that cultivate and steward mid-level donors.
  • Ability to set clear, measurable objectives for self and direct reports.

In Addition

  • Assist with special projects and efforts to ensure smooth execution and coordination with other internal teams.
  • Stay current and learn about the work of the No Kid Hungry campaign to effectively communicate the impact of donors’ gifts and keep informed of all other Share Our Strength initiatives.
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in direct response, mid-level and/or major gift fundraising with demonstrated ability to drive mid-level strategies preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of best practices for donor acquisition and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization and work successfully with them.
  • Values the entrepreneurial spirit and is able to think quickly and creatively in the moment.
  • Exhibits an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness across all program planning and execution.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills required. An ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment are essential.
  • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite required. Experience with fundraising CRMs a plus with Luminate and Raiser’s Edge/RE NXT experience preferred.
  • Interest (and preferably, work experience) in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
